WINE AND FOOD WEEK IN THE WOODLANDS CELEBRATES 20 YEARS
It was just over 20 years ago that Constance and Clifton McDerby started a concept called WINE AND FOOD WEEK IN THE WOODLANDS which has grown into one of the TOP wine and food events in the nation. The week of wine starts off this Tuesday, June 7th with a fun evening of “Grapes and Games from 6 to 8:30 pm at The Woodlands Country Club. Enjoy wine trivia, games of skill and more while sipping on delicious wines. On Wednesday Evening is “Wines Around the World Wednesday” at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Convention Center sipping on wines from a multitude of countries like Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Argentina, and Wine Country USA. Enjoy a plethora of wines from 6 to 9 pm, some of which I bet you could not pronounce or even knew about, like Albarino from Argentina or Mourvedre from Bulgaria. On Thursday, the latest wine trend, being, Rose’, bubbly and sweet wines. “Rose’ Way: A Sweet Soiree”, runs from 6 – 9 p.m. at the gorgeous new Peach Orchard venue which should tickle you pink as you sip on an array of sparkling wines and roses. The Market Street Stroll has been moved to October when the weather is cooler so this Thursday event is shifted to avoid sweating in the Summer HEAT! This week’s list of Summer events is indoors except for the Sunday concert at Bernhardt Winery which shuts down the Wine Week until this Fall. On Friday, the “Ladies of the Vine” will host a WORLD CLASS wine tasting and lunch at Carlton Woods featuring women in the wine business. Jamie Benziger, Imagery Estate Winery, has been named Wine Enthusiast 40 under 40 and Best Woman Winemaker. She’ll share her incredible journey with the lucky ladies who lunch at Ladies of the Vine Tasting, Luncheon and Panel Discussion. Joining her is Denise Batek from Hye Meadow Winery who started this local Hill Country favorite with husband, Mike. Hye Meadow Winery was voted Best Texas Wine at the Houston International Rodeo wine competition. Also in attendance will be Maeve Pesquera, Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, Daou Family Estates. This event might be sold out by the time this article gets to press. Lather that Friday evening, “For the Love of Texas kick-starts the weekend. Texans love good BBQ, tangy Tex-Mex, fresh libations under the stars. Texans also love trying new flavors and big, bold wines. This event pays tribute to the rich food tapestry found in Texas from 6 – 9 p.m. at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott and Convention Center. The BIG event of the week is located over the entire first floor of the Convention Center of The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.
