EXPLORING WINES VIA WINE EVENTS

Exploring Wines via Wine Events
Most wine drinkers enjoy the same wines repeatedly. They do not know about the expansive world of available wines. Before the Judgment of Paris in 1976, everyone “knew” only France made the best wines in the world. Fifty years ago during America’s Bi-Centennial Celebration, the “best of the best” French wines competed at a blind wine tasting in Paris under French wine critics. They unknowingly chose Chateau Montelena Chardonnay as the best white wine and Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon as the best red wine. This proved that other places in the world also made great wines. This blind wine tasting event opened the eyes of wine lovers to not only California wines, but to wines from South America, Australia, New Zealand, and many states in the USA such as Oregon, Washington, and Texas.
There is so much more to wine than just your favorite winery or wine grape varietal. There are over 8,000 grape varietals in the world with most people only knowing about five or six grape varietals. The entire world is at your beckoning when it comes to sources, vintages, and types of wines. The best way to experience a wide variety of wines is through wine events like Wine and Food Week in The Woodlands which will be happening in the first week of June. There are a variety of outstanding wine tastings to provide you with introductions to other areas of the world along with some of the more obscure grape varietals. Suggested events to expand your wine knowledge and provide you with more opportunities to experience a broader wine spectrum during this first week in June in The Woodlands include:
• Going Places Goes Global on June 3rd, features wine seminars with curated bites for a variety of regions.
• Ladies of the Vine Tasting, Luncheon, and Panel Discussion on Friday, June 5th, at The Club at Carlton Woods. Hear from women wine leaders on upcoming trends. This classy event is a style show of its own with sophisticated women enjoying the plushness of The Club’s décor.
• Sips, Suds and Savor on Friday evening is a casual event for all to enjoy wines, beers, and sliders.
• Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting and Chef Showcase at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Ballroom where acclaimed chefs compete for the coveted Chef of Chefs Waterford Crystal Award and a $5,000 cash prize. Patrons will taste the same foods as the Culinary Judges taste and evaluate. This dressy event is an event to “dress to impress” while enjoying the very diverse array of foods and wines. People have been seen at this event with their tuxedos and Stetsons! This world-class event is for all with wine stewards and winemakers available to answer your questions.
About 500 different wines from all over the world will be available during this week of wine. This vast array is there for the wine newbies and the sophisticated. The only requirement is for you to judge and enjoy the wines while learning more about wines with your likes and dislikes. Take a diary with you to jot down your appraisals of this diverse group of wines and foods while enjoying your senses with friends. Lastly, wine always tastes best when enjoyed with friends!
